How to choose chargers, power stations and gaming gear

Electronics are easy to compare on a spec sheet and easy to regret after delivery. The numbers that matter are rarely the ones in the headline, and the warranty and return terms often decide whether a fault costs you nothing or the full price. This guide covers what to check, and the store policies table at the end compares returns across the brands.
Power banks and chargers
- Watt-hours, not just mAh. A power bank's mAh figure is measured at the cell voltage, so two banks with the same mAh can hold different amounts of usable energy. Watt-hours (Wh) are the fair comparison.
- Output in watts per port. A laptop needs a USB-C port that can deliver its full wattage; phones charge fastest when the charger supports the phone's own fast-charging standard.
- Flying. The FAA allows power banks only in carry-on bags and limits their size by watt-hours, so check the Wh rating before a trip.
Anker, Baseus, Satechi and Native Union all print wattage per port on their product pages; compare those rather than the total.
Portable power stations
Power stations from EcoFlow and Jackery are batteries for camping, outages or a van. Match two numbers to what you plan to run:
- Capacity (Wh) decides how long a device runs: a device that draws 60 W all the time runs for roughly 14 hours on a 1,000 Wh station once conversion losses are counted.
- Continuous output (W) decides what you can run at all. A space heater or kettle needs far more than a laptop.
Check the battery chemistry too: LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) packs are heavier but rated for many more charge cycles than standard lithium-ion. Solar panel bundles are often cheaper than buying the panel later.
Keyboards, mice and headphones
For mechanical keyboards from Keychron or Glorious, check the layout (full size, TKL, 75%, 65%), whether switches are hot-swappable so you can change them later, and whether the keyboard works with your operating system's key layout out of the box. For headphones from Master & Dynamic, Skullcandy, JLab or Turtle Beach, check battery life with noise cancelling on, the codecs your phone supports and how ear pads are replaced.
3D printers and retro handhelds
3D printers from ELEGOO, Flashforge and QIDI Tech differ most in build volume, whether the printer is enclosed (needed for some materials) and how much setup and calibration it needs. Budget for filament and spare nozzles. Retro handhelds from ANBERNIC often ship from overseas warehouses, so check where your order ships from, how long delivery takes and who pays return shipping before you order.
Warranties: what the law says
Under federal law a written warranty can't require you to use the brand's own parts or service to keep coverage, unless those are provided free. The FTC's guide to warranties explains what a warranty must tell you and how to make a claim, and the FTC has warned companies about "warranty void if removed" terms. Keep your order confirmation: it is your proof of purchase date.
How to save in this category
Electronics brands discount specific models far more than they run sitewide codes, and bundles (a power station with a panel, a keyboard with extra keycaps) are where the real savings sit. Check whether the brand sells refurbished or open-box units with the same warranty, and compare the return window in the table below before you buy anything you might want to swap.
